Alana Evans appeared on Dr Drew yesterday on a show about doing porn and being a good mother. I saw a ten minute clip from the show and Alana did an amazing job of answering hard questions. She came across as intelligent, well-spoken and honest.
Alana said it is a juggling act, but her family always comes first and that she spends everyday with her son, except for the four or five days a month she works.
Dr Drew definitely was opposed to Alana’s view, but he treated her fairly. Callers to the show were split but polite.
Until… Dr Drew brought Shelley Lubben on via webcam.
I’m paraphrasing here, Shelley says that "children of porn stars are damaged. That her own daughter who is now twenty-two is still in recovery. That there were times her daughter would watch Shelly’s videos (WHAT???), that her daughter was masturbating since age four. I did really good, Shelley says, I tried to hide her from all of it. But you can’t hide it from them. Alana, you and your husband are having unprotected sex with multiple partners and not worried about what your kids will think of this in ten years.? Recovery was eight long years of learning how to heal emotionally, mentally, physically. I caught two sexually transmitted diseases. That led to me having cervical cancer where I had half of my cervix removed. I’m probably going to have to have a hysterectomy because I had unprotected sex in porn. I paid some serious consequences, not just physically, but emotionally and psychologically."
In my opinion, you can be a good parent no matter what job you have. It depends on the parent, not the job. And it is pretty obvious just from the clip, that Alana is a good mother and Shelley was/is a bad mother. I don’t think those truths would change, whether they worked in porn or In and Out Burgers. Alana takes responsibility for her family, and takes care of them. Shelley blames porn for everything SHE did wrong and takes none of the responsibility for the fact that she was a drug addicted hooker. The fact that Shelley would go on TV and talk about how her four year old daughter masturbated and saw her porn videos is absolutely disgusting. The fact that her child was exposed to sex, drugs & abuse at four years old is absolutely tragic…
And one more thing, I have to wonder if part of Shelley’s daughter’s ongoing "recovery" problems aren’t due to the fact that daughter is flaunted as a poster child of abuse everyday, on TV, radio, conventions etc… by Shelley. That in my opinion is just more abuse..
1) In November 2010, on the Howard Stern show, Lubben claimed her daughter Tiffany had been masturbating since age nine — but on Dr. Drew yesterday she said it was age four.
Lubben’s stories have become wilder and wilder, because it’s all about shock and “scoring points” and getting approval or attention — regardless of truth. She just says whatever she thinks is necessary to win over that particular audience.
By the way, Tiffany was born in June 1988, so she was nine in 1997. That’s two years after Lubben claims she became “saved” after getting married to “a pastor’s son” (whom she convinced to join the army to support her and her daughter), and moving to Tacoma, WA.
2) Her daughter Tiffany is about to turn 24 — yet Lubben says she’s 22. Nice job, Mother of the Year!

I would like to point something for Shelley. It is perfectly common for children that young to “masturbate”. I’m sure we’ve all seen some toddler, boy or girl, who is always putting their hands down their pants. You know why they do that? Because they found out that rubbing or touching that area feels good and since children, especially that young, don’t know what is acceptable public behavior, they do it as often as they can.
If she was masturbating to Shelley’s movies at any young, much less when she was 4, then that is a completely different issue.
Unless a porn star home schools their children or radically changes their looks and name from their porn days that child will sooner or later run into a shitstorm of drama and grief over their parent’s chosen profession.
I would just hope the parent has a gameplan on what to tell their child to prepare them for what is coming…

The other side of the equation is the alleviation of cultural stereotypes and biases about sex workers.
Self-serving porn profiteers like Shelley Lubben perpetuate of the worst stereotypes about these stigmatized people. Lubben makes it harder for performers to exit the adult industry, not easier. You’re not doing adult performers any favors by telling them, and the world, that they’re a bunch of demon-possessed, mentally ill, drug addled, immoral, disease-ridden slaves of satan.
As I wrote on Twitter (I’ll let you guess my username there ;-)), Alana did a GREAT interview. She was the sane one. I’m glad I didn’t have to listen to Crazy Eyes Lubben. I’m with Cindi…the issues is the parent and their ability to be a good parent, not their profession. Alana explained how she had a plan from the beginning. She prepared her son for the eventuality she knew would come. Shells blames everyone but herself and continues abusing her daughter by thrusting her into the public sphere of how “porn” ruins lives.
Sorry, Lubben, YOU ruined your daughter’s life by being crazy.
Honestly, who gives a fuck what the (non-porn-enjoying) civilian opinion is of porn or sex workers? As long as religion reigns on this planet, the opinion will ALWAYS be the same! To go on any t.v. show and act as an apologist for the porn industry is absolutely pointless. Those who get it, get it. Do what you do, do it well, do it with conviction, and totally disregard those who would judge you for it. Shelley Lubben is an idiot and a blatant liar, nothing new there. Sadly, she wasn’t sterilized at birth.
I think it made the show more interesting that Lubben webcammed in. I didn’t expect that. I think it’s healthy to show 2 differing experiences, stances and opinions. What I thought was worthwhile to see here, is that though Lubben is totally against Evan’s lifestyle, she didn’t shield her children’s identities where as from what I could see in the clips (though I didn’t see the actual show so I’m not sure) Evans did NOT show her family.
I think that element brings up an interesting issue – whether you’re pro-porn, anti-porn or whatever – should anyone who’s even attached to porn ever introduce their family’s ID’s into the equation.
The primary reason I allowed myself to be corralled into Whiteacre’s defamitory project against Lubben was due to her bringing her kids into the public eye. I thought is was dangerous then (though I know she means well and is attempting to show her family as an example) and I still do.
There are psychos out there who will target an adult performer’s kids – especially if those children are female – to either sexually attack, kidnap or maybe even befriend in effort to drive a rift between them and their parents to later coerce into the adult world. They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and there’s many who are under the assumption that a “whore breeds a whore” (or maybe a super whore – afterall, it’s 2nd generation).
There was a show produced a while ago starring Gina Rodriguez called XXX Mommy (who ironically also claims not to be totally for the porn industry yet still works in tandem with it) who did something similar (in regards to putting her children on the national stage).
Of course with the internet research technology available – it’s really easy to associate a person’s family member’s ID’s to anyone attached to the adult sphere (whether they want it done or not) which SUCKS (if anyone knows this it’s me) – so it seems to me that there needs to be some sort of law in place (maybe even it could be implemented by ICANN/ICM – they’d probably have to create a division for this but it could be done) that monitors and routinely disconnects an adult performer’s stage name and real name from that of their relatives.
I’m not a mom, so my view on this doesn’t hold much weight either way – I see how having families is just a part of life for many – BUT I think kids need to have a chance in to build their reputations and lives free of attachments to the “mistakes” of their parents – that might be to idealistic of me though.
What will be interesting to observe in the next few decades is the phenomenon of adults coming out publicly in regards to their parents who were attached to this era of the porn industry. Whether their parents were pro-porn or anti-porn won’t matter – the impact this issue will have had on their lives will be pretty heavy due to how their peers (and parents of their peers) treat them.

If Shelley did say that her daughter had been “masturbating” to her movies as early as age 4, that would be what we call a LIE.
Taking Michael’s point that her youngest daughter was born in 1988, that would mean that she would have become 4 by 1992. Shelley’s first porn film wasn’t released until around 1993.
