NL- I spent the last couple hours reading about HIV testing & false positives. It is very interesting , but also confusing. ELISA/Western blot tests for HIV
HIV ELISA/Western blot is a set of blood tests used to diagnose chronic infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).A negative test result is normal. However, people with early HIV infection (termed acute HIV infection or primary HIV infection) often have a negative test result.
What Abnormal Results Mean
A positive result on the ELISA screening test does not necessarily mean that the person has HIV infection. Certain conditions may lead to a false positive result, such as Lyme disease, syphilis, and lupus.
A positive ELISA test is always followed by a Western blot test. A positive Western blot confirms an HIV infection. A negative Western blot test means the ELISA test was a false positive test. The Western blot test can also be unclear, in which case more testing is done.
Negative tests do not rule out HIV infection. There is a period of time (called the "window period") between HIV infection and the appearance of anti-HIV antibodies that can be measured.
If a person might have acute or primary HIV infection, and is in the "window period," a negative HIV ELISA and Western blot will not rule out HIV infection. More tests for HIV will need to be done.
Who the hell would take an old ELISA test these days, when there are fourth generation tests available??

@Vince – Who would use ELISA tests? People like Michael “Rapid Test” Weinstein, because they’re fast and cheap. Weinstein is one if the biggest drug dealers on the planet. To him the only purpose of testing is to identify as quickly as possible as many potential AHF pharmacy clients as they can, so that AHF can sell them costly (not to mention toxic) AIDS drugs. To AHF, a positive HIV diagnosis is really just phase one if marketing: identify the consumer.
Correct MW, I’m surprised Whinestine isn’t pushing Eliza tests on the industry. Actually, since all tests don’t test for HIV, but for various and dubious markers that labs, doctors and countries can’t agree upon, I think we should just revert back to Eliza tests, because they’re fast and cheap. And if someone tests “positive”, no need to fear or freakout like in the old days, as we now know that subsequent tests are required.
I’m not surprised — Weinstein only pushes what is profitable to him, and AHF doesn’t make any real money off of testing; it makes it off AIDS drugs. AHF pushes condoms because they’re an intrinsic part of the marketing of AIDS fear and hysteria — condoms in porn = free, permanent, universal product placement.

Cant remember if quack or charaltan fits better for him. At least there are better medicines to fight HIV, the first and second generations often did more harm than good. My personal worry about disease and meds is from I am Legend that a cancer vaccine would turn all of us into mutants, there may be a disease that will do that. Best to manage and prevent chronic conditions first, then go in for the kill. Diet is the key to some of these.
