Adult industry trade association Free Speech Coalition has revealed the location of the first four testing facilities to participate in the Adult Production Health & Safety Services program. APHSS is the association’s attempt to maintain industry-wide health screening in the wake of AIM Medical Associates PC’s closure earlier this year.

“This program has been developed with the help of legal and medical experts, as well as industry members,” said FSC Executive Director Diane Duke. “It will be administrated by Free Speech Coalition as a resource to fill the gap left by the closure of the AIM clinic.”

AIM, the adult industry’s first and primary provider of the monthly health screenings performers must undergo before working for most content producers, closed in May due to financial hardship. The organization had been in operation since 1998.

On Wednesday, APHSS revealed four recommended testing facilities. Three operate clinics in the greater Los Angeles area as well as at other locations in California, Nevada and Florida. The fourth comprises a network of clinics nationwide. Performers who test at any of the facilities may have their work-availability results entered into the APHSS database. Producers and agents will be able to access the database in order to verify a performer’s status.

The clinic locations are:

Primex Lab, 16742 Stagg St., #120, Van Nuys, Calif. Primex operates draw stations throughout California and Nevada. Performers who have a prescription may go to any Primex facility and request a performer’s panel test.

LabTest LA, 12410 Burbank Blvd., Ste. 100B, North Hollywood, Calif. LabTest also operates draw stations in Florida. Performers may obtain prescriptions at any of their locations and request a performer’s panel test.

The Healing Wave Center, 16742 Stagg St., #109, Van Nuys, Calif. This medical clinic can provide testing services and other limited medical services.

Advanced Medical Testing Center operates locations throughout the U.S.

All of the testing facilities also are open to the public and offer a wide range of testing services. For more information about any of the facilities, visit APHSS.org and click the “testing facilities” tab on the top menu bar. From there, users can follow links to the facilities’ websites.

“FSC has been working diligently since the closure of AIM to provide the industry with the APHSS program, in order to continue health and safety protocols for adult production,” Membership Director Joanne Cachapero said. “Our top priority has been to protect the wellbeing and privacy of performers, as well as securing the best possible testing services for the industry.

“We’re starting from scratch with this program, but with the support of the adult community, we’re sure that APHSS will be an important resource for adult productions,” she added. “We also look forward to developing additional services such as health and safety education for industry members.”

The APHSS.org database currently is undergoing beta testing. A formal launch announcement is expected later this week.

Two questions for all clinics: how much & how fast (results)? Also, why is TTS not listed or recommended, because the blood is shipped to Florida?

    Here’s a link:

1-day results locally for Primex (guaranteed) and Lab Test LA (with some exceptions)

Primex is 7 days a week, Lab Test LA (Unilab) is NOT and sends its specimens to a lab out of state, so if you were, for example, to test at Lab Test LA on a Friday, you would likely not receive your results until Monday.

3 to 5-day results for Advanced Medical Testing.

The Healing Wave clinic is a couple of doors down from Primex, which is one of the most prominent labs in California. I have toured both those facilities and I can say that I am certain that you’ll be impressed by both the facilities and the staff.

I have not toured the remaining facilities yet, but everything I have heard has been positive. I will visit them soon and will gladly report back. I encourage all performers to visit the different facilities and find which one(s) they like best.

I learned today that there will be a further announcement tomorrow or Monday regarding the database and the program, generally.

As for Talent Testing, you’d have to ask FSC why it does not participate in this program, because I have no idea.

And FYI, the “prescription” thing means you walk in, and a doctor — who will then be the ONLY person to see your medical information — recommends a test based upon your request (and whatever else doctors require under CA law). It is worded that way, and structured that way, for legal reasons, to uphold a high standard of performer privacy, and to avoid some of the problems that arose from AIM’s old system. The system ensures doctor-patient privacy for medical information.

Unlike AIM, this is not a one-stop clinic-based system, and it does not fall under the jurisdiction of the entities that conspired to harass AIM.

  4. jeremysteele11 says:

    Yeah “pre-script” is right.

How corruption or “conspiracy” works is that on all levels everyone goes along with what they are told and tell others the same. Very few actually examine the nuts and bolts of what the nuts and dolts are selling us… you know, just to be sure of things…

  5. I’m skeptical. What value does APHSS add? From what I’ve read before, it sounds like additional fees would be imposed beyond the standard fees to do what TTS already does. I’m very satisfied with the services provided by TTS. Their site allows you to control who can access your results and they seem to take security very seriously. TTS is much better than AIM ever was.

  6. Michael Whiteacre says:

    1) TTS is just as vulnerable as AIM was — both to a breach AND to lawsuits and harassment by AHF and the government. If they target TTS, the industry will have no system. How much of its own money do you expect TTS will spend to defend your privacy rights?

    2) What medical follow-up does TTS offer? LabTest LA has an in-house doctor, and Primex is affiliated with a doctor who has opened a brand new clinic a couple of doors down from the lab for the purpose of serving this community (and others).

    3) G-d forbid there is another HIV incident what plan does TTS have? APHSS will have a system in place.

    4) Once the basic testing and database system is up and running, other services can be added. These will be determined by the advisory committee which includes active performers, producers, agents, etc… as well as medical and legal professionals.

More details will be announced today or Monday.

  7. RickMadrid says:

HOW MUCH ARE THE CHARGING? $$$

  8. Michael Whiteacre says:

    @RickMadrid – The answers are at https://aphss.org/

It depends on whether or not the performer is to be tested in CA or not, and which clinic he/she prefers.

I read something on Mike South’s site (and it was also Tweeted widely) that the membership/administration fee to performers would be $600 per year. This is absolutely false. The fee is $50 PER YEAR (not $50 per month) and the first few months are free as the system takes hold and the database is populated.

  9. jeremysteele11 says:

Hey, I’ve got a bright idea. Why don’t we all test at the FREE testing clinics, such as at Out Of The Closet and other places? Since that test is good enough for cilivians, why not us? I’m just going with Mike South’s point here regarding eliza versus pcr.

I say until there’s a Gold Standard test, it should be up to the discretion of the industry itself to choose. Think about it, research it, and then respond. Thanks. Remember all test manufacturers require further tests (in other words, the buck stops nowhere)!

  10. Michael Whiteacre says:

@Jeremy – Two problems with what you suggest:

    1) Out of the Closet is run by AHF;

    2) APHSS is not just a test. The purpose of APHSS.org is to provide a verification resource for tests, and also to uphold protocols in the event of an outbreak. Private doctors and clinics have no way to do an industry-wide stoppage if something happens.

Also, APHSS has protocols for new performers and for treatment in the event of infection that need to be observed. APHSS facilities have been given policies for how to deal with performers’ issues with dignity and understanding — i.e., a non-judgmental environment with professionals who are familiar with the needs of the performers.

Again, APHSS.org provides verification that performers didn’t fuck with their test, and upholds protocols in the case of an incident. As we have learned the hard way — starting with the incident that led to the creation of AIM — otherwise the consequences can be grim.

Whether or not you or I or anyone believes the HIV hypothesis of AIDS, the state and the county do — and I’m pretty sure that most performers would prefer a SYSTEM that can track, stops, manage and their potential exposure to HIV and STIs.

  11. jeremysteele11 says:

Regarding point 1, Michael, I don’t see this as a problem, necessarily. The test is free. And if civilians can have free porn then we should have free testing… my point being the whole testing thing is bullshit anyway so let’s go for the best deal which is NUTHIN’!

And if someone is “+”, then they should go to various places to re-test, in particular ones with different standards and markers of measurement. It doesn’t matter where it starts, just don’t let it end until you’ve gone through enough tests and opinions just to be sure.

If a lab says you’re “positive” because say bands 112 and 116 reacted… well just take your test to a lab which determines band 160 is an HIV indicator protein band…. then, voilà! You’re cured!

  12. Michael Whiteacre says:

I recognize the problematic nature, and even the absurdity, of the tests, and of the ascribing of meaning to them by what you’ve terned the “orthodoxy”, but we must resign ourselves to the reality — be it a political reality or what — that a certain level of testing and protocols will have to be utilized. Call it a concession necessary to defend against the condom peddlers led by the Latex Messiah, Michael Weinstein and his band on merry men who stand more than happy to trump-up an “epidemic” on demand.

  13. jeremysteele11 says:

We don’t need to test. We just believe we need to test (“OMG! WHAT did he say??”). Logically, if the tests are absurd then it’s absurd to test. And yes, Whinestein IS the Latex Messiah and the devil is in our dingies. I actually agree to a degree with Margold and see this AIDS thing as eugenics, except HIV itself isn’t deadly, just the misdiagnoses and “medicine”.
