First Woman to Announce Her Run For Prez

NL- She looks damn good for 55, although i see signs of having work done. ( this picture is probably from when she was first elected to congress 5 years ago)

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann announced her run for the2012 Republican presidential nomination today.

according to her website-Congresswoman Bachmann hosted the first Tea Party Caucus meeting because she saw the need for Tea Partiers to have a listening ear in Congress. She is seen as a champion of Tea Party values including the call for lower taxes, renewed focus on the Constitution and the need to shrink the size of government.

  1. Larry Horse says:

She’s twit evil, like Sarah Palin.

  2. More like twit psycho than evil. This is the same woman who wanted Democrats in Congress investigated for being “UnAmerican” as if she were an expert on what makes a true American in the first place.

This is the same woman who crouched behind the bushes at a Gay Pride rally to spy on their activities, but left after she was spotted and gave the lame-ass excuse that she was just “resting her heels”.

This is the same woman who begged her constituants to not answer the 2010 census because it was too intrusive and that somehow the information given would then be used against American citizens in some way – she never clarified how…

This is the same woman who opposed cap and trade by saying that she wanted Minnesota citizens to be “armed and dangerous”. She tried to convince everyone that she meant “armed with knowledge” but that horse had already gotten out of the barn.

This is the same woman who opposed the AmeriCorps community service program on the basis that it actually ran “re-education camps for young people.” Never mind that her own son actually joined Teach for America – which is part of the AmeriCorps program.

This is the same woman who when President Obama travelled to Asia said that the trip “is expected to cost the taxpayers $200 million a day. He’s taking two thousand people with him. He’ll be renting out over 870 rooms in India. And these are 5-star hotel rooms at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel. This is the kind of over-the-top spending, it’s a very small example…” You could hear the laughter all across the beltway.

This is the same woman who wants to abolish Social Security and Medicare entirely, as well as abolish the minimum wage.

To paraphrase Keith Olberman’s frequent observations about Sarah Palin…

    That woman…IS A WHACK-JOB!!!!!!!

  3. Well said Cool, but why stop there?

“Since she joined Congress, Bachmann has sparked controversy on several fronts, often in connection with her strongly held evangelical beliefs. When Minnesota parents got word that her publicly funded charter school was incorporating some religious influences into its curricula, they began to complain. Bloomberg reports that one parent protested when a teacher had banned Disney movie “Aladdin” because of its elements of magic. Others complained that an American-Indian themed art project was “nixed,” according to Bloomberg, and there were discussions about mandating prayer and religious subjects in students’ coursework.

Three months after the school opened, “Bachmann and four other board members resigned when presented with the parents’ concerns” one parent told the news outlet.”

“Bachmann holds strongly conservative beliefs when it comes to abortion and homosexuality. She has expressed the belief that homosexuality can be learned. Bachmann and her husband continue to run a Christian counseling organization that has been accused of trying to help turn gay people straight. Marcus Bachmann has denied that charge–though he has suggested acceptance of homosexuality can “cause” it.”

“In Feb. 2007, Bachmann stated that Iran planned to “partition Iraq” to make half of it into a “terorrist safe haven zone.” She later said her comments had been “misconstrued.”‘

“In 2009, Bachmann followed up on comments made by Rush Limbaugh, suggesting Democratic presidents could be blamed for swine flu outbreaks. “I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out then under another Democrat president Jimmy Carter,” Bachmann told PajamasTV, even though the swine flu outbreak of 1976 happened under Republican Gerald Ford. “And I’m not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it’s an interesting coincidence.”‘

“The Pulitzer Prize-winning web site PolitiFact, for example, has fact-checked 23 Bachmann statements. The result: one statement is rated as “true” (regarding Obama and the debt ceiling), two are judged to be “half true,” four “barely true,” nine “false,” and seven “pants on fire!” – including Bachmann’s assertion that then Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi had a “$100,000 bar tab for alcohol on the military jets that she’s flying.”’

“In its Sunday edition, the Los Angeles Times reported that “the Minnesota Republican and her family have benefited personally from government aid, an examination of her record and finances shows” – not exactly the kind of news to warm a tea partyer’s heart.

“A counseling clinic run by her husband has received nearly $30,000 from the state of Minnesota in the last five years, money that in part came from the federal government,” the LA Times reported. “A family farm in Wisconsin, in which the congresswoman is a partner, received nearly $260,000 in federal farm subsidies.”

Then there are those millions of dollars in earmarks she won representing Minnesota in Congress. (She’s since pledged not to take any more earmarks.)”

  5. jeremysteele11 says:

Who/what is this, Sarah Palin 2.ø?

  6. jeremysteele11 says:

I don’t see that as an applicable question, Monica. Obama became President, but the RepubliCONS are trying to breed a candidate which will attract more women, etc, but not as incredibly dumb as Sarah. It’s kind of scary because they both look a lot alike.

  7. heh heh heh , you guys are gonna hate whoever runs for the republicans

  8. It’s totally applicable for the Democratic ticket in the future if the Republicans regain the Presidency.

  9. jeremysteele11 says:

It doesn’t matter either way to me, Travis. I think the other party should be called DemoCRAPic. My understanding is Ron Paul started the Tea Party, but then it was railroaded and became the Teabag Party.. and anyone who’s into porn or crazy parties knows what tea-baggin’s all about!

  10. Here is some more good press for her from the net:

WASHINGTON — Michele Bachmann’s claim that she has “never gotten a penny” from a family farm that’s been subsidized by the government is at odds with her financial disclosure statements. They show tens of thousands in personal income from the operation.

And, on a less substantive note, she flubbed her hometown history when declaring “John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa,” and “that’s the kind of spirit that I have, too,” in running for president.

The actor was born nearly 150 miles away. It was the serial killer John Wayne Gacy Jr. who lived, for a time, in Waterloo.

Those were among the latest examples of how the Minnesota congresswoman has become one to watch — for inaccuracies as well as rising support — in the Republican presidential race.

Bachmann’s wildly off-base assertion last month that a NATO airstrike might have killed as many as 30,000 Libyan civilians, her misrepresentations of the health care law, misfires on other aspects of President Barack Obama’s record and historical inaccuracies have saddled her with a reputation for uttering populist jibes that don’t hold up.

She announced her candidacy Monday in Iowa with a speech typical for someone joining the campaign. It laid out the broad themes of her candidacy and mostly avoided the Bachmann bomblets that have grabbed attention — and often fizzled under scrutiny — in the long lead-up.

The more the political season heats up, the more that exaggerations and sound-bite oversimplifications emanate from the Republicans going after Obama — and from the Democrats playing defense. Still, Bachmann’s record on this score is distinct.

Examining 24 of her statements, Politifact.com, the Pulitzer Prize-winning fact-checking service of the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times, found just one to be fully true and 17 to be false (seven of them “pants on fire” false). No other Republican candidate whose statements have been vigorously vetted matched that record of inaccuracy.

A look at some of her recent statements and how they compare with the facts:

BACHMANN: “The farm is my father-in-law’s farm. It’s not my husband and my farm. It’s my father-in-law’s farm. And my husband and I have never gotten a penny of money from the farm.” — On “Fox News Sunday.”

THE FACTS: In personal financial disclosure reports required annually from members of Congress, Bachmann reported that she holds an interest in a family farm in Independence, Wis., with her share worth between $100,000 and $250,000.

The farm, which was owned by her father-in-law, produced income for Bachmann of at least $32,500 and as much as $105,000 from 2006 through 2009, according to the reports she filed for that period. The farm also received federal crop and disaster subsidies, according to a database maintained by the Environmental Working Group. From 1995 through 2010, the farm got $259,332 in federal payments.

When asked about the subsidies and her income from the farm late last year, a spokesman for Bachmann said only that she wasn’t involved in decisions about the running of the farm.

Bachmann told The Associated Press on Monday that her husband became a trustee of the farm because his father had dementia before he died two years ago, and “oversees the legal entity.”

“Everything we do with those forms is in an abundance of caution,” she said, insisting she and her husband receive no farm income despite the forms reporting it.

    ___

BACHMANN: “Well what I want them to know is, just like John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa, that’s the kind of spirit that I have, too.” — Speaking to Fox News on Sunday.

Wayne was born in Winterset, Iowa, nearly three hours away, and moved to California in his childhood. John Wayne Gacy, convicted of killing 33 men and boys, was born in Chicago, moved to Waterloo to work in his father-in-law’s chicken restaurants and first ran afoul of the law there, sentenced to 10 years for sodomy. He began his killing spree after his release, and his return to Illinois.

    ___

BACHMANN: “Overnight we are hearing that potentially 10 to 30,000 people could have been killed in the strike.” — Criticizing Obama in May for the “foolish” U.S. intervention in Libya, and citing what she said were reports of a civilian death toll from a NATO strike as high as 30,000.

THE FACTS: The U.S. ambassador to Libya, Gene Cretz, said in late April that U.S. officials have seen reports that 10,000 to 30,000 people may have died in Moammar Gadhafi’s crackdown on protesters and the fighting between rebels and pro-government forces, but it is hard to know if that is true. He was speaking about all casualties of the conflict; no one has attributed such a death toll to NATO bombing alone, much less to a single strike.

    ___

BACHMANN: “It’s ironic and sad that the president released all of the oil from the strategic oil reserve. … There’s only a limited amount of oil that we have in the strategic oil reserve. It’s there for emergencies.” — On CBS’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday.

THE FACTS: Obama did not empty all the oil from the strategic reserve, as Bachmann said. He approved the release of 30 million barrels, about 4 percent of the 727 million barrels stored in salt caverns along the Texas and Louisiana coasts. It’s true that the U.S. normally taps the reserve for more dire emergencies than exist today, and that exposes Obama to criticism that he acted for political gain. But the reserve has never been fuller; it held 707 million barrels when last tapped, after 2008 hurricanes.

    ___

BACHMANN: “One. That’s the number of new drilling permits under the Obama administration since they came into office.” — Comment to a conservative conference in Iowa in March.

THE FACTS: The Obama administration issued more than 200 new drilling permits before the Gulf oil spill alone. Over the past year, since new safety standards were imposed, the administration has issued more than 60 shallow-water drilling permits. Since the deep water moratorium was lifted in October, nine new wells have been approved.

If the world lasts beyond 2012 and/or another Republicon Presidency, they won’t be looking to breed another Obama, in my opinion, Monica.

  15. not that i am excusing her many gaffes and misstatements , Bama has made quite a few himself, but where is it written that a president has to be a smooth polished public speaker ? smooth talkers make me suspicious. I would like someone to run that hasnt been a GD lawyer their whole life.

  16. jeremysteele11 says:

Vote for Ron Paul, Travis. He’s the only Republican worth voting for! In fact, he’s a Republican all good Democrats would vote for, too!

  17. You waste your time voting for either of them. Its like asking to be executed by lethal injection or by electric chair. Either way you are dead. Here is why:

When our forefathers created this country they had a vision that there would be a congress with 2 houses/branches. One house would be made of 2 representatives from each state and they were called Senators. The other house would be made up of so many representatives from each state based on the population of that state and they were called congressmen or representatives. They were elected to follow the will of the people of that state or district within that state.

Over the years we have developed into a 2 party system. Ya I know there are Tea Party, Independant, Libertians, and a few others but they have no real power to speak of. There are Democrats and Republicans. The 2 parties call all the shots in this country. When a congressman or senator is elected for their 1st term they may have great ideas and vows to be a decent person and represent their people back home. They might enter the business with a relatively clean soul and belief that they want to make this country better.

Very quickly they discover that they are expected to follow their parties doctrine. They are not to vote for what their people want but are expected to vote for what their party wants. They are to vote against anything the other party wants or suggests even if it is a good idea for the country. In other words when democrats are in power the republicans do everything they can to block it because its not their partys idea/doctrine. Same thing when the republicans are in power. Thats why nothing ever gets done in the Senate or the House because they spend all their time cockblocking the opposing party’s ideals.

Another factor in how the congress and Senate work is the fact that at election time they recieve large contributions by Political Action Committees (PACs) and corporations. These people donate vast sums of money to the party (Democrat or Republican) in hopes that the person in office will vote on bills favorable to their cause. The little guy that drives a cab, is a factory worker, or stands on his feet all day long making minimum wage serving people at McDonalds can’t afford to donate the vast sums of money thats used to win elections.

When a official is elected to office these PACs and corporations expect that their money bought favor and the elected official votes for their cause. The elected official could care less about you because you didn’t donate money to them. They only care about you when its election time and they need your votes. I can’t tell you how many times a guy shows up at election time and then you never hear from him (or her) again until next time they are running for re-election.

Most americans agree that we need some sort of a universal health care system, most americans think we should not be at war all over the world and our people brought safely home. There are many issues that ther majority of americans agree on. So why doesn’t the will of the people work to get our elected officials to do what we want? Its because its not what the PACs and corporations want. There is more money in us always being at war then us at home in peacetimes. Trillions in fact.

The vast majority of our kids that are in the service come from poor or middle class areas of society (barrios, ghettos, trailer parks, rural areas, or lower/middle class neighborhoods). They are enticed to join for a possible better future with college paid for, or to see the world, or a steady paycheck. How many Senators and Congressmen have their kids in the armed forces? I would guess none. Or if they are in the service they are kept stateside or in low danger areas like bases in Japan or Germany. When was the last time you heard a congressman or senator’s child died in Iraq, Afghanistan, or Libya? The pimps we elect to public office got no problem going to war all over the world because its NOT their kids in danger.

  18. @Travis

I couldn’t find “Chef’s must have taste-buds” written anywhere else either, but I always just sort of assumed it was necessary.

  19. and that is why i believe term limits are one way to start turning the system around.regular people called to serve and then go home and pick up their lives again. career politicians from either side have one over riding concern, get re-elected.
not participating in the system isnt going to change anything, “oh well thats just the way it is ” BULL
@karmafan , i totally diagree with your opinion of people serving in the military, they couldnt do any better, what condecending BS . you’re awful cynical up there on your high horse.
@fartz, i’d rather have the old farmer from down the road as president than some damn suit wearing slick shyster. that old man has more common sense than all of DC put together.

  20. Travis sure there are kids from the poor and middle class going to college. Was not my intention to make you think I was looking down on the kids that join the service (my brother did 3 tours of Iraq and I have 2 cousins that were in Iraq as well for at least 2 tours in the army).

  21. chitownie says:

Travis, don’t misconstrue what I stated.

I would cock her for hours on end, so I don’t hate her…It’s her moronic policies and bullshit moral majority (oral majority would be nice!) crap and asshat-ness that I despise.

She’d be a great lay, but a horrible president.
