Rodger Jacobs In Pain & OUT of Meds

Written by Rodger Jacobs

Sorry for the impersonal mass e-mailing but there’s no time right now for me to send personal messages regarding my situation this gray Sunday L.A. afternoon. As you may have heard or read, there is a new crime wave sweeping across the U.S. and Los Angeles in particular: pharmacies are being robbed, often at gunpoint, not for the cash in their registers but for the potent painkillers behind the counter like oxycodone and oxycontin. In response to this rash of robberies several pharmacies — including brand-name firms like Rite Aid and CVS — have stopped stocking oxy and refills can only be had with several days advance notice. I was made aware of this last Friday after visiting my new GP in Highland Park and getting refill scrips for several of my daily maintenance meds, including my oxycodone, which I have to take four times daily for chronic arthritic pain (and have been doing so since November 2009).

A pharmacist’s assistant at CVS told me on Friday that my "best bet" for getting my scrip refilled (which I have in hand) is "(to) possibly try a pharmacy near a hospital, they’re more likely to have it in stock." I have called or visited six pharmacies within walking distance of our Highland Park home since Friday to no avail. No one is stocking it. I have two pills remaining, which will carry me until 6:00 this evening; within six hours after that I will begin enduring the grueling wirhdrawl process that found me in a Las Vegas ER last June.

Now, I have acquired no less than five revenue-producing projects since returning to L.A. a little over one month ago but so far only one has produced income in the form of a retainer that has since been spent on groceries and bills. As I write this I have $3.74 on Pay Pal and my SS Disability payment does not hit until June 3, next Friday. My bank account is, unfortunately, overdrawn and cannot be tapped. My co-pay for the oxy is $10.00 and a bus to, say, Glendale Adventist is $1.50 each way. The math is not in my favor. Some of you receiving this message have helped me in the past so I understand if there’s nothing you can do, honestly I do. Anyone who can help today with transportation or a loan via Pay Pal (I will return whatever funds are forwarded, it may take time but it will be done) or anything you can think of, well, I would be most appreciative. For my colleagues in media please feel free to report any or all portions of this correspondence to underscore the crisis of pain medication abuse in this country that is creating crisis situations for legitimate patients such as myself.

My Pay Pal is rodger_jacobs@yahoo.com. My cell number is 702-496-2996. I’ll be standing by the phone and inbox all afternoon.

Thank you,

Rodger Jacobs

  1. This man is a drug addict, nothing more… They don’t prescribe oxycodone for arthritis, they prescribe oxycodone for surgeries and extreme pain from trauma. He found a doctor that was willing to prescribe whatever he asked for. 7 years ago I was involved in an auto-accident where I almost lost my rignt arm. So far, it’s required 5 surgeries and I have multiple internal prothetics. I am in very real pain daily. It’s this type of person that has put painkiller’s such as oxycodone as schedule 1 controlled substances. It’s this type of person that now has doctor’s hesitant to prescribe any pain medications. And he’s turned to online begging so he doesn’t experience’ ‘withdrawel’. He even states that’s the reason, not his pain. Withdrawel will not kill you, nor will it send you to the ’emergency room’. The only reason to go to the emergency room would be to seek a free way to obtain his fix. I would not give this man a dime…

  2. Yeah, my gradparents on both sides suffered from severe chronic arthritis (like most old people do) and they never got a script for something as powerful as oxycodone. They took aspirin and toughed it out. I prefer ibuprofen to any opiate based painkiller on the grounds that opiates always make me puke.

Oh, and who in the blue hell is Roger Jacobs?

  3. This man needs to to take a Motrin and quit whining. He’ll make it.

  4. You’re absolutely correct Origen…

  5. ” to underscore the crisis of pain medication abuse in this country that is creating crisis situations for legitimate patients such as myself.”

are you serious? You are pathetic. You disgust me. I would have more compassion if you just admit you’re a junkie and stop pretend other people are the problem.

    yuck.

  6. How about; NO!!

Save your self some money and detox and get off drugs.

And WTF is this article up for anyways? This is an adult blog right? This article does LIB zero.

  7. I’ll just repost my response that’s still in moderation…

    @Fartz

This guy is complete bull****. Think about it, if he takes 2 pills 4 times a day, he’s getting 240 oxycodone for 30 days… That’s unheard of! Unless you’re spinal chord injury victim… He’s despicable. It’s doctor-shopping drug seekers like him that have made it extremely difficult for people with real pain to obtain the relief they need from legitimate doctors. And to openly beg for it! I have alot of contempt for people like this…

    Today at 5:00 p (5 hours ago)

  8. @kermur

    I totally agree witn you…

  9. I also like how he says he needs a myriad of ‘maintainence’ meds, but the only one he’s worried about getting is the oxycodone…

  10. Larry Horse says:

He needs to detox, oxycodone is not a long term solution for arthritis, he’s just an addict plain and simple. Long term use is not good for the stomach so he should be losing weight. His wikipedia makes him sound like he’s Legs McNeil, he’s Mike Albo with some talent.

  11. @Larry Horse

I read his supposed ‘pulitzer prize’ winning article, The New Homeless, in the Las Vegas Sun. It’s just another woe-is-me article about him not being able to pay his bills. It was the economies fault, the decline in his profession’s, society’s fault, his dying mother’s fault, the list goes on. But do you know who’s fault it wasn’t? It was never his fault he couldn’t pay his bills and was losing his home. Maybe if he got off the hardcore pain meds, he’d have more drive to go out and find work…

  12. Wait, didn’t Rite-Aid go out of business? How could he have called them if they don’t exist?

  13. freepornstarpix says:

Rodger Jacobs was at one time the highest paid writer of adult scripts and wrote movies like Hercules for Wicked. He has serious chops as a writer, but it is harsh occupation.

  14. freepornstarpix says:

He was also divorced at a very inopportune time in the late 90s and lost everything.

  15. freepornstarpix says:

By ‘inopportune’, I mean the time period during the transition from scripted movies to gonzo. The first big slow down for scripts was in 1998.

  16. Cindi, the comment section formatting on the site is messed up. Just so you know…
