Sasha Grey Says Goodbye to Porn…

Sasha Grey writes: Hi everyone, I posted the below on my social media sites this am, and it will be available at www.sashagrey.com as well.

I’ve always tried to be as open and honest with my fans (and onlookers) as much as possible. With the way social media has progressed, a lot of personalization has been lost. The purpose of this is to address the elephant in the room, and to thank all of you.

It’s become quite evident that my time as an adult film performer has expired. Don’t worry, I haven’t found Jesus. One thing is for certain, I’m proud to say I have no regrets, I genuinely feel I accomplished everything I could as a performer. I was able to work with the industry’s most professional performers and companies, and I’ll always cherish the friends and relationships I was able to build. It was simply the perfect time for me to move on… while I was on top (pun indeed, intended).

Life sometimes takes us in a direction we never could have imagined.

Thanks to my friend Brandon Stosuy, last week at Housing Works in NYC I had a very successful launch for my first book, NEÜ SEX. We had a huge turnout of people for our discussion and signing, all while supporting a cause!

Vice and I donated several copies of the book to Housing Works, so everyone who bought a book (or a drink) in turn helped fight HIV/AIDS and homelessness. Some very familiar faces showed up that night, and I’m happy I got to share my excitement with all of them!

Four years in the making, NEÜ SEX includes my visual mosaic through photography, my sexual philosophy, and observations. I’d just like to say thank you to every individual who has supported me from day one, you are truly my shining stars. If you had not listened, if you weren’t interested, this book would not exist. I’ll forever be grateful, and humbled by your outpouring of support. This book is dedicated to you.

  1. I’m sure no one is surprised by this. At least she isn’t bashing porn and joining Shelley’s christian mafia.

  2. jeremysteele11 says:

Her retirement should free up the purse strings of companies which no longer have to pay her rate.

She likes being degraded and punched in the stomach in scenes, I’ve read. She’s also an athiest, so obviously she hasn’t found Jesus, duh. But I wonder what in her mind created this thing we call existence, all the herbs and foods which provide for our needs, etc (the knowledge which shamans have shared)? What about quantum mechanics and near death experiences which prove consciousness survives the body’s death? Being an existentialist does not necessarily mean not believing in what we call “God”, (as many so-called existentialists do believe in God) or acknowledging a power the exists within and beyond us.

The three worst movies I’ve seen are:

    1. Elephant (inspired by Columbine. But it shows a guy shooting off a gun in a hallway yet somehow other students down and around the hall don’t hear it and no one runs. This is just one example of how stupid and fucked-up this movie is).

    2. The Girlfriend Experience. Lucky and I start screaming after each attempt at watching it at mere 15 minutes blocks and still we haven’t got through it yet. Yet this aweful movie is what caused the creator of Entourage to “take notice”.

    3. El Topo. Visually nice-looking and artistic but a surrealistic non-sensical violent assault on the senses. A great movie for sociopaths not interested in any sensible plot, whatsoever.

Once upon a time Max Hardcore sarcastically said in a documentary by that asshole Kris Kramski that God must exist to make a man like him so successful. I wonder if Sasha thinks similarly.

She’s just someone I can not ever jerk off to, mainly because of the notion that’s been sold that’s she’s better and smarter than the rest of us. Maybe if it was true I would be more aroused.

The producer of Porn Star For Rent really wanted me to interview her because he recognized it as being good for the doc, but, after an initial correspondence between us instigated by myself, she, for whatever unexplained reason, decided to discontinue the correspondence. Hey if it was something that I said (which I doubt), then maybe the producer should’ve contacted her instead of insist I do it, like I told him in the first place. After all, he’s the one who insists he’s so smarter than me, as well. Regardless, if the doc actually ever got done I would’ve said in complete self-assurance that it was her loss, even if she didn’t “need” the publicity.

Sasha is an interesting girl that has now grown into being a woman. What is great to me is that she is smart enough to have used porn as a tool to go someplace else. Really and truly there is no other women that has ever gotten this far in mainstream. Such some girls do scenes but they are always dirty or porn related or sex driven. That has not been the cause for Sasha. I wonder if this means she is going to take her website and transform it also. I would hope she would taken another year or two and shoot only for her site and bank the cash. I think this book has a potential for being a huge hit in the art community and the expression art areas too.

Good luck and best wishes in your other endeavors in life.

  4. essequemodeia says:

It will be a well-referenced case study – the porn girl who genuinely transcends – and fascinating to see how she plots her career trajectory now that she has moved on from the medium that made her interesting in the first place. Is porn an anchor or a ramp?

Either way her story is compelling and its easy to root for her. What would rooting against her look like? Maybe it would be so esoteric .. simply forgetting her name. I think she’ll have her real name to comfort her.

  5. jeremysteele11 says:

Should I write an op/ed on Sasha Grey? I could call it “Grey’s Anatomy”. Nah. I’ll just add that, along the lines of the God she does not believe exists, that if Sasha did not exist she would have been created, anyway. As porn has got more and more and more and more mainstream, it created the need for whoever’s the next “it” girl. But I think she should give thanks to the likes of Katie Morgan, who like Sasha herself, got lucky. I think Katie makes a better performance on HBO than the acting I’ve seen of Sasha’s so far. Katie represented porn with her friendly, comedic, ditsy sounding high pitched voice and tit-job as the kind of stereo-typical porn star the masses expected. And as porn continued to become more and more and more and more mainstreamed, it opened the doors and created the need or calling for a performer who would contrast Katie’s personification, as someone dark-haired and serious acting, versus blond, fake-boobed and high pitched and ditsy sounding. I think Sasha has got a few admirable and certainly some unique qualities, but so do most of us. There’s plenty of girls who no less deserve the fame and fortune she’s achieved, but the way the system works is there can only be one, especially in lieu of the way society currently is; one ambassador to represent porn- that way the masses don’t have to admit to being big fans of porn by acknowledging a slew of performers. Sasha path was paved for her by those who proceeded her. She’s “winning” because she won the porn lottery.

  6. I thought she was amazing when she entered the biz, but then she opened her mouth to talk instead of inhale cock, and she just generally became less and less attractive to me. I can’t fucking stand people that constantly quote Nietzsche. It’s like, ok, I get it, you’re all arty and non-conformist and shit.

As for being an actress, she’s basically played herself in everything I’ve seen her in. Plus, she’ll always carry the stigma of being one of the more fucked-up, completely depraved performers. I really wish that we lived in a society where we accepted people like Sasha who’s put her depravity on show for all to see, but I don’t see it happening. IMO She’s going to need a huge shot of luck to keep her candle burning. I’d love to see her succeed, but it’s sort of like watching a fat kid race a bunch of skinny kids. Sure, it’d be great if she made it, but circumstances are against her.

  7. jeremysteele11 says:

Why did you think she was amazing, Fartz? I thought it was amazing that people thought she was amazing, because she used a six syllable word called “existentialism” and other words you don’t often hear from porn stars, such as “eponymous”. I thought she had this look in her eyes early on that said “You’re all a bunch of fuckin’ idiots”. But she assumed and took on that “it” roll and everyone went along with it because “there can be only one!”.

She’s the only girl I refused to work with besides Mila from years back (who used to literally perform like Linda Blair in the Exorcist). I was booked for a blowbang and Sasha was one of three girls there, along with a mainstream t.v. camera crew that obviously didn’t want to be there, and obviously had no respect for porn people, which reminded of me of what I thought she thought of the rest of us, as well. So I told the director my test results hadn’t come in yet and left as she was inspecting guys cocks before the scene started. This was not long after our initial correspondence fell through in regards to following her around and interviewing her for Porn Star For Rent, and her subsequent decision to just not respond, as she was obviously too busy doing “bigger and better” things. Its too bad for her, because these people, although they were mainstream had no respect for her and us (you can sense that very obviously from the crews there), whereas our interview would have been respectful, good-natured, humor-filled and entertaining engaged by people who have been well acqainted and a part of the industry, not contemptuous outsiders which she also played the roll of, in her own way, as well… obviously she thought she was too good for any of it, just as the t.v. crew thought they were too good for us.

  8. jeremysteele11 says:

Btw, it’s been over six years and this is still the only clip the producer has been able to put together

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDjfiYkGUgw

In spite of this being the legend Christy Canyon, this interesting clip was not going to be in the doc because it was too dull compared to all the other stuff we had.

  9. I was never a fan. To me she is just plain and could be any plain average girl you see on a street anywhere in the country. I thought she was way overrated and not what I would call hot.

My taste runs towards more voluptuous girls like Friday, Karma Rosenberg, Jane Darling, Harley Raine, Phoenix Marie, Cassandra Calogera, or Haley Cummings.

  10. Sasha Grey departure is a proof of the posible existence of a God, but sandly I fear she will be back.

  11. I always loved that girl…I wish the best in the future out of porn 😉

  12. jeremysteele11 says:

You love everyone Pepe. Stay tuned for the PS4R youtube clip of Christy Canyon. Apparently she wasn’t too good to get interviewed.

  13. I never got her, and her pretentious hipster attitude. But I honestly wish her luck and am impressed that she didn’t trash the porn industry on the way out.

  14. chichiladouche says:

JohnnieMontecito Traci Lords has most definitely gotten further then Sasha Grey in mainstream acting but that isn’t saying too much. I wish he well but I don’t think any of the young A list ingenues in her age range have anything to worry about.

  15. jeremysteele11 says:

WTF is with that book cover anyway?

How about “Shades of Grey” for a title?

or maybe “Violent Torpedos of Youth”?

    or maybe “Hip Eponymous”

… but wtf do I know, right? I’m not worth talking to 🙁 …me so sad…

Whew, I just read that scathing 1 star amazon review, although it doesn’t address any of her existentialistical writings.

  16. jeremysteele11 says:

Btw, I want to apologize for labeling the Porn Star For Rent producer a “producer”. A producer is actually someone who gets something done!

  17. Grim Reaper says:

Sasha Grey is delusional if she thinks she was hired for any of her mainstream jobs for any other reason then she is a porn girl. Earth to Sasha…it wasn’t for your acting ability…you can’t act. Go pay for some lessons and do it quick. Write this down…date and time, when the glow of her infamous porn career wears off and she has to make it on talent, like the 1000’s of other Hollywood wannabes, she will realize exactly who she is, and what she isn’t. Write it down. The sad part is the asshole porn company owners and industry mouth pieces like Ron Jeremy will be using her as bait to lure the next batch of naive girls into the shit hole called the porn industry.

  18. Karmafan, you have great taste in women. I would add:

Nina Hartley, Jenna Haze, Katsuni, Gianna Michaels, Rebecca Linares, Annette Schwartz, Katja Kassin, Sara Jay, Luscious Lopez, Nyomi Banxxx, Jada Fire, Roxy Reynolds, Charley Chase, Cherokee D’ass, Nyomi Zen, Nautica Thorn, Lexi Cruz, Agatha Moreno, Ariel Alexus, America, Angelina Castro, Sophia Castello, Alana Sampaio, Lacey Duvalle, Sexy Vanessa, Monica Santiago, Havana Ginger, Alexis Texas, Carmen Hayes, Naomi Russell and Flower Tucci.

Amber Rayne is a whole lot of a better actress both in erotica and in mainstream than Sasha Grey. However, I don’t hate that much on Sasha Grey. She is a little pretentious but at least she was a REAL pornstar who did everything–unlike Jenna Jameson.

  19. haha I don’t love everynone Jeremy except Sophia Santi, India Summer, Kristina Rose and of course Miss Grey. No idea about Cristy Cannyon video, Hey men! She looks great!, Jeremy add a new one that I love, Cristy! lol

    P.S.
Soon Tori Black will leave porn too…time to time..

  20. jeremysteele11 says:

Ironic, when I said I think Sasha should thank Katie Morgan (who’s HBO “special” came out in 2005) I didn’t even realize at the time I said it that Katie also preceeded Sasha in Entourage (Katie appeared on the show in 2008).

Whether mainstream trashes porn stars or not they use them either way to peddle their product!

  21. freepornstarpix says:

How many of her movies does she own? Her video catalog is where she’d make some money down the road,(not DVD so much, but VOD).

  22. Really great OP-ED on XBIZ;

Stephen Yagielowicz – “Adult Comes Full Circle”

  23. She will come back, she will show us her anal warts and saying “say hello to my little friends”.

  24. jeremysteele11 says:

Don’t be mean, Harvey. There’s too much of that.

“Say hello to my little friend” is what Roy Garcia says during his p.o.v.s.

I know mainstream has to show its “superiority” to porn while simultaneously expressing its ever burgeoning and irrepressible interest through marrying, so to speak, one singular porn “actress”, but what really got me rolling my eyes was an AVN interview where Sasha had to say the word “eponymous” 3 times within a short space of verbiage in order to impress us with how smart(er) she supposedly is. If you have to repeat a fancy word more than once instead of conversationally elobrating on examples of who or what the word represents, you’re only confirming what others have already suspected, which is that you’re a fraud; an artificial creation of pseudo-importance which only mocks and rips off the rest of us.

    I wish her well.

  25. @Origin
    Good to see you back.

    @Steele

Remember, I really, really, love depraved whores. So my use of the term “amazing” here, referred to her willingness to be a depraved whore right out of the gates. With her unique look, she could have easily been sucessful doing lukewarm Vivid and Naughty America Scenes, but she came out doing mopebangs and throat-fuck flicks and begging for more. None of that innocent-teen, nervous-doe-eye shit. I’m talking about signing the papers and then going immediately toungue first into Brian Surewood’s cornhole. From a fan’s perspective, that’s something I respect.

  26. jeremysteele11 says:

Ok Fartz, you’re right then. She’s amazing… and a product of the times. That non-erotic, deranged, depraved choke ’em, slap ’em, spit on ’em, fuck ’em in the ass, do everything but write them bad checks kind of behavior had been all the rage for a while. Oh, corrupted youth!

  27. Well, Jeremy, when it comes to the opinions of whores, there really is no right or wrong. I’m not a huge fan of the choke em’, spit em’, etc. stuff. I just liked her attitude. There’s something about a girl with no limits that makes me happy. I love Kelly Wells, Amber Rayne, Isabel Ice, Annette Schwarz, early Sasha. You get the point. It’s the willingness, not the act itself. This seems to be a sensitive issue with you. What gives?

  28. jeremysteele11 says:

Sensitive? As opposed to unsensitive or desensitized, Mr. Fartz? What can I say?

I’m right now waiting to get my call info for a b/g scene… the girl is supposed to have been there but hasn’t show up yet and I’m waiting on the director’s confirmation before I leave. I’m all dressed up and nowhere to go as we speak. Yeah, I said I’m retired but like Al Pacino in Godfather III, every time I try to get out they keep pulling me back in. And as I wait, it reminds me… I’ve been on shoots where the girl quits the business because something traumatic happened to her and she no longer wants to do this sort of thing for a living. How many chicks have done porn? So many its mind blowing, but how many last for too long? How many girls who have never been around long enough to ever be nominated for some silly award have bailed out because they suddenly find themselves being treated in ways that are polar opposite of what attracted them into the business to begin with? For some sex is a weapon and disrespect is like shit to flies. I’ve done shit like fish-hooking, not because I’m into that but that’s what the director wanted. It looks stupid and is as erotic as watching a dog take a shit, actually I think watching a dog take a shit is more of a turn on. But I mentioned that I put Mila on my “no” list years ago. She was normal the first time I worked with her. Then the next scene she screamed at me like Linda Blair in the exorcist (“Fuck Me!!!”) spit in my face and when I came in her mouth she spit the sperm back at me. Plus her asshole was so wrecked that soon after her colon was literally protruding out. People could be arrested for some of the things done on camera for “entertainment purposes”, if it wasn’t for the fact that a camera is rolling and they signed a release waiver.

Ok, just got a text. I’m on for 1:30PM. Two hours to kill…

  29. jeremysteele11 says:

I got a call from a blocked number, normally don’t answer such calls, but thought it was the director calling me as I just came out of the shower and it sounded like a tranny who claimed s/he worked with me (although I have never done tranny scenes) “a while ago”, telling me not to test at Talent Testing Service because anyone can access their database. Then s/he hung up without ever having identified him/herself. Strange because I just tested two days ago for the first time with TTS because AIM (or whatever they’re called now) was closed for “remodeling”, which I didn’t know until I got there, which put me in a panic. Luckily, Lucky directed me to TTS and the guy there was really nice and stayed open after closing just to wait for me. The cost of the tests there are $110 instead of $135
with results 48 hours later. With AIM being closed so often I had no choice, and in lieu of this scare tactic phone call which I didn’t appreciate it looks like I have a new place to test. I’d say these desperate scare tactics have backfired. I wonder if this person who called me was able to find out I just tested through the site. Have any other performers reading this also gotten similar phone calls?

  30. Some safety nazi with a hidden agenda might be sitting on the place watching who comes and goes. Or one of Shelley’s Christian Mafia crew maybe?

  31. jeremysteele11 says:

Speaking of Nazis, here’s a the U.S.’s repressed photo of a dead Osama Bin Laden. It says he was found dead in December, 2001, but similar to finding the cure for AIDS, finding Osama would fuck up the business of war, which helps explain why Bush said one year after 9/11 that finding Osama wasn’t of concern to him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttl91cTmHYM&feature=feedu

You see folks, this is what happens when porn stars have too much free time on their hands! I profusely apologize for bursting any bubbles out there!

  32. jeremysteele11 says:

Anyways, in lieu of the obviously fake photos of a phony Bin Laden paraded by the Pentagon and its servant, the corporate news media, which showed a guy with a shorter, fatter nose, as well as Dubya’s statement in 2002 that he didn’t care where Bin Laden was and that it wasn’t a national priority anymore (in contradiction to what he said a year earlier), this information explains those anomalies.

  33. Jeremy,
DId you know that Talent Testing Service has NO referring physician of any kind on their staff? Thats why they cant even write you a prescription if you have gonnorreah or chalmydia. They will tell you to go ot your own doctor.

No wonder they can do the test for cheap. They are actually just a shell company that is a front for the lab in Florida that does the testing themselves. NO DOCTOR of any kind for the patients to consult with.

Jeremy, how does a company with no doctor legally order a pcr/dna test on someone with NO DOCTORS ORDER. Now theres something you should look into Jeremy, and perhaps save the industry a whole new big headache when the LA County Health and AHF turn their attention to this “clinic”(front for the lab in Florida) Be a hero Jeremy, look into this.(I’m giving you this one just for all the crap I’ve given you in the past) IF you dont believe me just call them tomorow and ask who the doctor is who actually orders your tests. Start there and then look deeper, you’ll be amazed!!!!!

  34. jeremysteele11 says:

    Joe Know,

We don’t need a fuckin’ doctor to consult with, we just are required to test. If we need a doctor we go to Dr. Rigg who TTS also refers talent to, if needed. They have Dr. Rigg’s business cards in the office.

And why do you care, Joe?

And Joe, I could tell you some VERY interesting and entertaining stories about AIM but I won’t bother, since they have enough problems already.

  35. Honestly, I LIKE Sahsa Grey. She may act like a bitch but, honestly, I get the feeling she’s a nice person. She’s an artist person but I hope she realises she can have more of an impact if she just “knows her place”. As she affirmed with her new book, erotica is her true calling. I hope she tries erotic directing. Specifically glam-porn, because that niche is in the garbage dump–sans Michael Ninn, Holly Randall, Jean B. Root, & Marc Dorcel. Even then, there are few American directors who really make an impact on glam-porn and there is a appalling lack of realism in the niche that I think Sasha Grey could contribute to.

  36. You left our Philip Mond, Origin, but to your credit, he hasn’t put anything out since 07′. I think glam-porn should be burned with fire. But, I do see it appealing to certain types. It takes all kinds, you know.

Sasha never really came across as a bitch to me, necessarily. It’s just the artsy-fartsy kitsch talk with all of the existentialism that Jeremy mentioned and all. Sometimes though, it seems that facet of her personality was trumped up by the industry more than by Sasha herself. I remember reading many, many, articles and interviews where all of her pretentious BS was brought out by the interviewer and writer than by Sasha herself. They were excited to have a star that wasn’t the typical stripper bimbo that fits the stereotype of society’s view of porn whores and they took every chance they had to rub it in our faces. It was like, “Look! Look! We gotta’ a smart one here!!! Whaddya’ think of that?!”

  37. jeremysteele11 says:

Maybe Elton John and Bernie Taupin should compose a “Goodbye Sasha Grey” ode.

  38. Mainstream News wires around the country are reporting today that Sasha Grey has retired from porn to persue an acting and music career.

Of course we knew that a month ago when it was posted here at LIB.
