“Al Jazeera Offers Real News” Says Clinton

NL- If u are looking for cutting edge, up to the minute news  on middle-eastern countries, AJ is definitely better than the US’s over-hyped coverage. http://english.aljazeera.net/

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Wednesday that Al Jazeera is gaining more prominence in the U.S. because it offers "real news" — something she said American media were falling far short of doing.

Clinton was speaking before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and she said the U.S. is losing the "information war" in the world. Other countries and global news outlets, she said, were making inroads into places like the Middle East more effectively than the United States has. One of the reasons she cited for this was the quality of channels like Al Jazeera. The channel, she said, was "changing peoples’ minds and attitudes. And like it or hate it, it is really effective." U.S. news, she added, was not keeping up.

"Viewership of Al Jazeera is going up in the United States because it’s real news," Clinton said. "You may not agree with it, but you feel like you’re getting real news around the clock instead of a million commercials and, you know, arguments between talking heads and the kind of stuff that we do on our news which, you know, is not particularly informative to us, let alone foreigners."

Hillary is actually right. We have “Free Speech TV” and “Link” t.v., but they’re literally pushed way back on channels 9,410 and 9,415 (on Dish network), !

Having these channels this far removed from the others… coincidence or conspiracy?

  2. Oh yeah, AJE is awesome. I watch it all the time. Great global coverage.

BUT the network is not going anywhere. It is clearly too anti-Israel and I sense a subdued anti-Semitic bias.

  3. Well, Fox is clearly anti-minority, and they’re going strong. Hell, they don’t even really report the news that much. They basically rip the president 24/7. Cue Joeknow in 3,2,1…………

  4. When I was in Thailand a bit over a year ago my choices for news were BBC, Fox, CNN and Al Jazeera. Al Jazeera was BY FAR the best of the bunch, nothing else was even close. I was very surprised. When i got back i wrote about it, glad to see Hillary catching up….

Now I’m not deluding myself that the English Speaking Al-Jazeera is very different from the Arabic version but I don’t really care, the coverage was unbiased, very timely, global, and without rhetoric, Fox and CNN could learn from these guys

Amen, Mike. Again, there’s a reason Al Jazeera plays on Free Speech TV and the channel is nine thousand four hundred and ten!

  6. See how unbiased they are when the news is about Qatar… Though I do actually agree, other than that, they do a great job of reporting straight forward non-editorial based news…

Al Jazeera is NOT anti-semitic. It only seems that way because of the way the US media skews their coverage of the middle east and thus Americans’ perspectives to where we only hear Israel’s side of the argument.

The fact of the matter is that Israel is a rogue state run by terrorists. They are just as racist as South Africa was at the height of apartheid and FAR more brutal in their methodology.

The Christian Science Monitor is also a great fact-based news source. The BBC has moments of candor on occasion as well.

To indicate how bad the western corporate media is and has been, I have a subscription to the communist paper The Internationalist to get news about demonstrations and turbulance around the world. I’m not a communist nor care much about their propaganda but they provide lots of photos of chaos such as the student protests in France. One photo shows a pretty woman holding up a sign telling the wife of the French President that she’s not the only one the head of state is screwing (“Carla, we’re like you, the head of state is screwing us too)…

I would have to agree with you about the corporate media in America.

MSNBC is as disgusting as FAUX in their coverage of international affairs. It’s nothing but a bunch of gadflies parroting each other and touting their respective party lines and there is NEVER a critical peep about our “buddies” in the middle east who hold the purse strings and like pulling false flag operations like the Lavon Affair and even worse in recent years.

  10. Israel is racist and ruthless but no way in hell are they as bad as apartheid South Africa. I support the concept of Zionism but I totally abhor the way Israel treats Palestinians and non-Jews in their country. Its disgusting and the nation has become a disgrace.

AJE is kinda anti-Semetic. Not to a potent degree but next time you see a Jewish Middle East commentator (especially one from the US) invited on, watch for how the anchor interrupts more than they usually would.

The only Jewish people they seem to treat normally are those who go out of their way to condemn Israel.

Plus, Israel NEVER does anything right according to AJE. Netenyahu ordered the IDF to evacuate Palestinians from Libya and that was only remarked on ONCE by AJE–only as breaking news.

Israel isn’t racist. The problem with that cunt-tree is like the problem with ours; the so-called “leaders”, that is, not acting on behalf of the people, but themselves and their buddies.

Zionism is a political movement. It has nothing to do with Judaism (which is a religion) except that it uses the religion to further its causes… which makes it scary the way any fanatical religion is… which is exactly what a religion becomes when you make a political movement out of it… and there’s supposed to be a pretense at least of differiation between synagogue and state, isn’t there?

Politics is corrupt, to put it nicely. Have religion married to politics and its beyond sick.

    differentiation/separation…. misunderestimated that one.

  15. A decent book on Journalism in the Middle-East is ‘People Like Us’ by Joris Luyendijk, though the book is a little biased… Two un-biased accounts of the Middle-East are ‘The Arabs’ by Eugene Rogan and ‘The History of the Middle East’ by Peter Mansfield… Both the last are reviewed and recommended by ‘The Economist’ weekly magazine…
